Brattleboro Union High School Global Affairs Club and Windham World Affairs Council, Co-sponsors
6 pm – Presentation by Prof. Chistopher Coggins on Chinese Efforts to Combat Climate Change
7 pm – Participation in webcast hosted by the Eleventh Annual CHINA Town Hall led by Susan Rice
BUHS Multipurpose Room, BUHS, 131 Fairground Road, Brattleboro, VT
This event featured a live webcast discussion with former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice. In addition to her foreign policy role as national security advisor (2013-2017) and U.S. permanent representative to the UN (2009-2013), Ambassador Rice also served as U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs and Senior Director for African Affairs at the National Security Council. Her decades of public service and critical role in developing and executing the Obama administration’s policies towards China make her perspective on the relationship especially relevant as we navigate this uncertain time in the bilateral relationship.
Before the webcast Dr. Christopher Coggins, professor of Geography & Asian Studies at Bard College at Simon’s Rock and author of books including The Tiger and the Pangolin: Nature, Culture, and Conservation in China, discussed the Chinese government. and Chinese people’s efforts to conserve China’s biological diversity and responses to climate change. He then opened the event up to audience discussion prior to Ambassador. Rice’s presentation and led a Q&A following that.
This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments served.
